Your Driving Instructor Training Programme
Personalised One-to-One Training Designed Around You
No two trainee driving instructors are the same, which is why every training course with Phil Hirst is tailored to your individual experience, confidence and goals.
From your very first lesson through to qualifying as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), you'll receive structured one-to-one coaching, practical guidance and ongoing support designed to help you succeed, not just pass the tests.
With over 30 years of instructor training experience, Phil will personally guide you through every stage of your journey.
Training Built Around Your Success
Learning to become a driving instructor is a journey, not a race.
Some trainees progress quickly, while others prefer a more gradual approach that fits around work, family and existing commitments. That's why every training programme is adapted to your pace, ensuring you develop confidence as well as competence.
Every lesson is delivered personally by Phil, allowing your training to evolve naturally as your knowledge, driving ability and instructional skills continue to improve.
You'll always know where you are, what you're working towards and what comes next.
What You Can Expect
Your Training Journey
Every trainee follows the same three-stage DVSA qualification process, but the way you prepare for each stage is personalised to your progress and learning style. Rather than rushing through the syllabus, Phil focuses on helping you build the confidence and understanding needed to become a safe, professional driving instructor.
Part 1: Building Your Knowledge
The first stage of your training focuses on developing the knowledge required to successfully complete the ADI Part 1 theory test.
Using a combination of structured study, online learning and practical discussion, you'll build a thorough understanding of driving theory, instructional techniques and road safety.
Preparation includes:
- Guided theory study
- Hazard perception preparation
- Access to recommended learning resources
- Support through Phil's ADI Part 1 eLearning programme
Part 2: Developing Professional Driving Skills
Once your theory preparation is complete, your focus turns to advanced driving.
Through one-to-one coaching you'll develop the professional driving skills expected of an Approved Driving Instructor, learning to drive with greater awareness, planning and control.
Training includes:
- Advanced driving techniques
- Observation and anticipation
- Mock driving assessments
- Detailed feedback after every lesson
Part 3: Becoming an Instructor
The final stage is where everything comes together.
You'll learn how to plan lessons, coach learners effectively and adapt your teaching style to different pupils, developing the confidence and professionalism needed to become a successful instructor.
Training includes:
- Lesson planning
- Client-centred learning
- Practical teaching sessions
- Mock instructional assessments
- Detailed coaching and feedback
Gain Real Teaching Experience
After passing Part 2 and completing the required instructor training, you may choose to apply for a trainee licence.
This gives you the opportunity to begin teaching real learner drivers while continuing to prepare for Part 3, allowing you to gain valuable practical experience before becoming fully qualified.
Many trainees find this to be one of the most rewarding stages of their journey, as it allows them to build confidence in real-world teaching situations.
Benefits:
- Teach real learners
- Gain valuable practical experience
- Build confidence before qualifying
- Continue receiving Phil's support
- Start to earn as you learn
