Standards Check Training Day – Theory & Practical
15th February 2019 @ 09:30 - 17:00
£85.00
Ever attended a Standards Check (SC) training day, desperate to put theory into practice there and then, but couldn’t? Well, now you can!
Phil Hirst’s SC Training Days offer theory and practical training on the same day. First, attend a morning’s interactive theory discussion and then put theory into practice during the afternoon’s in-car session.
Morning Session (9.30am – 12.45) Standards Check – Theory
The theory session examines the planning and delivery of first-class driving lessons. We study the three components of the SC 1 form: lesson planning; risk management; teaching and learning strategies. Each of the seventeen criteria, by which instructors are assessed, are demystified so that delegates are left in no doubt as to what is expected of them.
We work through a generic, one-hour lesson plan, teaching at the correct level and how to deal safely and appropriately with problems caused by our pupils and other road users
Small group activities allow for all-important delegate input. Their contributions are vital as we learn as much from our peers as we do from the course leader.
Afternoon Session (13:30 – 16:30) Standards Check – Practical
Working at a maximum ratio of 3:1 (delegates/trainer), we go on-road to put the morning’s theory into practice. You will be in the trainer’s vehicle. Through roleplay, demonstration, practice and discussion, we recreate scenarios on typical driving lessons and how to deal with them safely.
We explore how to adopt a client-centred approach in our teaching to help pupils take responsibility for their actions and raise their self-awareness.
Ultimately, our delegates should leave the course knowing how to plan their lessons, teach effectively, adapt them if necessary and keep risk at an acceptably low level.
Course Debrief and Summary (16:30 – 17:00)
